Charter School Cooperatives

CHARTER SCHOOL COOPERATIVE SPONSORSHIPS

The Saint Paul Public Schools will enter into cooperative sponsorship agreements with interested charter schools to allow charter school students to participate in Saint Paul Public School high school athletic programs.

The following requirements must be met in order for the Saint Paul Public Schools to consider a cooperative sponsorship with a charter school:

  • Charter school must be a member of the Minnesota State High School League.
  • Student residency determines program eligibility for charter school students who wish to participate in Saint Paul Public School high school athletic programs. Students may participate only in the high school athletic program of the Saint Paul Public School high schools they would be eligible to attend based on high school attendance areas established by the Saint Paul Public School's Board of Education.
  • Student must meet the athletic academic requirements of the Saint Paul Public Schools.
  • Student must meet the attendance policy of the athletic department.
  • Cooperative sponsorship must be agreed before the start of the athletic season the student athlete will participate.
  • Payment for both charter school's participation rate fee as well as student athlete's participation fee.
  • Responsibility of the charter school to provide all of the necessary information to the high school.
  • The charter school and the participating student take the responsibility for transporting the student to and from the charter school to team practices and contests.

The cooperative sponsorship agreement will require the interested charter school to pay a per pupil fee based on a schedule provided by the Saint Paul Public Schools for each sporting activity offered by the Saint Paul Public Schools. The rate schedule reflects the actual cost to provide athletic opportunities on a per pupil basis on the previous year's total expenditure on athletic programs. The charter school student will be responsible only for the high school's participation fee. Both the charter school's participation rate fee and student athlete's participation fees are non-refundable.
