ST. PAUL CITY CONFERENCE: Cheerleading Guidelines

  1. Cheerleader advisors fall meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. at Highland Park Sr. High. The winter meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at Highland Park Sr. High, 3:00 p.m. in Room 106.

  2. Fall practice may begin on Monday, August 11, 2008.

  3. A student may compete in interscholastic athletics and be a cheerleader at the same time.

  4. Official varsity cheerleader squads will be determined by each school. Eight cheerleaders shall be allowed in the cheerleading area. Eight uniformed junior varsity cheerleaders will be admitted to a junior varsity or "B" Squad game. If pom-pom girls, gymnasts, or mascots are involved, the total shall not be more than nine in the cheerleading area.

    1. Exception: 16 will be allowed in football.

  5. Cheerleaders must meet all eligibility requirements of the Minnesota State High School League and the St. Paul City Conference (the same as athletes and be included on the Master Eligibility List). This includes the physical examination required every three years.

  6. Cheerleaders must pay the district fee for cheerleading (once a year) in addition to the fee for any sport they play.

  7. Cheerleader coaches are responsible to see that cheers are in good taste.

  8. Chearleading coaches of a stunting squad are to be AACAA Safety and Stunt Progression Certified.

  9. Bare midriff uniforms are illegal.

  10. Cheerleaders are not to do cheers in front of the opponents fans. (Welcome cheers etc. are done from your own area.)

  11. Cheerleading squads, regardless of the sport they are cheering for, are forbidden to do human "pyramids."

  12. The site manager has the authority to designate where cheerleaders may cheer from.

  13. Cheerleaders will cheer at home events only, except for football and hockey games.
