ST. PAUL CITY CONFERENCE: Girls' Tennis Guidelines

  1. The girls' tennis coaches meeting will be Thursday, August 14, 2008 at 12:30 p.m. at Central High School, Room 275. All coaches, including any assistant coaches, must attend this meeting.

  2. Opening date for practice is Monday, August 11, 2008.

  3. All coaches are encouraged to join the St. Paul Coaches Association and the Minnesota State Coaches Association.

  4. The schedule posted will be followed. The only cause for postponement shall be inclement weather. Should it rain on the day of a scheduled match, the match will be postponed one day. Should it rain on the scheduled postponed date, the home site coach will make arrangements to play indoors. The home site coach will notify the visiting school and the District Office.

  5. Should rain occur during a tennis match, the match will be halted for fifteen minutes to determine whether the rain will continue. If the match must be rescheduled due to inclement weather, the match will resume at the point where it was suspended.

  6. Warm-ups will be limited to ten (10) minutes before each match.

  7. Teams will declare players in position and the number one player will play the number one player, the number two player will play the number two player, etc. The number one doubles team will play the number one doubles team, etc. Coaches will have lineup in written form on arrival for the match. Changes in lineup and scoring may be made by mutual agreement of the coaches.

  8. Ten (10) players will participate in each meet. A contest will consist of four (4) singles and three (3) doubles. A contestant competing in a singles match may not compete in doubles.

  9. The winner of each match will score one (1) point.

  10. The HOME team will call in the scores of the match to the newspaper. HOME coach should contact John Vosejpka by phone (767-3490), Fax (293-5374) or E-Mail (john.vosejpka@SPPS.org) with results for Web site posting.

  11. All contests will be governed by the USTA rules.

  12. Play consists of two out of three sets with the twelve point tie-breaker when needed (6-6 score). Refer to MSHSL Handbook and Bulletin for additional information.

  13. Coaches may talk to players when they are changing sides between games in a set.
    1. Such consultations may take place during the normal one-minute change only and must not delay the set.
    2. Games cannot be interrupted for consultations.
    3. Players may not leave the court but may talk to the coach along the side of the court or at the fence adjacent to their court.
    4. This type of consultation is not presently permitted in regional or state competition. This would also not be allowed in non-conference matches, except by mutual agreement by the coaches.

  14. Each home coach is responsible for providing fourteen new tennis balls for each match.

  15. Racquets will be furnished by each player.

  16. The home coach will have the responsibility for designating the area or areas for all spectators including players not presently competing.

  17. All-Conference team will be selected at the post-season meeting.

2008 GIRLS' TWIN CITIES TENNIS MATCH

DAY: Monday, September 29, 2008
TIME: 3:00 p.m.
PLACE: University of Minnesota Baseline Tennis Club

  1. If two teams tie for the conference championship, the entry for the Twin Cities Match will be the winner of their dual meet during the conference season. If a tie still exists the school that has not participated most recently will automatically qualify for the Twin Cities Match.

  2. Contest - four singles and three doubles.

  3. Ten players will constitute a team.

  4. Balls will be furnished for this match by the host school.
