ST. PAUL CITY CONFERENCE: Junior High Boys' Basketball Guidelines

  1. The boys' basketball coaches will meet on Friday, January 16, 2009, at 3:30 p.m., at Harding H.S.

  2. Practice may begin no earlier than Tuesday, January 20, 2009.

  3. Coach or school athletic director is responsible for hiring the officials for each home game. They must also forward, in a timely manner, the Officiating Services Report to the District Office so that officials get paid.

  4. Medical examinations are required for all students participating in interscholastic sports programs. Contact your athletic director for procedure.

  5. Practice shall be conducted five days a week, except on the days when games are scheduled.

  6. Length of quarters shall be eight minutes each.

  7. Each school will determine its own policy in admitting spectators. Visiting schools should be notified of this policy.

  8. Both coaches should talk with the officials prior to each game. A level of play may be determined at this time -- skill level will be improved only if both the coaches and officials cooperatively work toward that goal.

  9. Request for non-conference games must be made through the Athletic Director in charge of boys' basketball.

  10. Only the following personnel should be seated on the players bench: coach, student coach intern, student managers and student players.

  11. The home team will provide a timer and scorer. The district office will pay $8.00 for this service. It is the responsibility of each coach to train personnel who are assigned the duties of timing and scoring.

  12. The team named second in the schedule is the home team and will wear dark uniforms. All equipment necessary to conduct the game will be provided by the home team.

  13. The results of the game should be called in by the HOME coach to John Vosejpka by phone (767-3490), Fax (293-5374) or E-Mail (john.vosejpka@SPPS.org) for Web site posting.

  14. Students and coaches are to travel on bonded carrier. Coaches must accompany students on the bus.

  15. Trophy, ribbons and medals will be presented to the City Champion at a scheduled board meeting.

  16. Pressing -- use common sense.
