ST. PAUL CITY CONFERENCE: Junior High Girls' Volleyball Guidelines

  1. The Junior High volleyball coaches will meet on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 4:00 p.m., 360 Colborne, fifth floor cafeteria.

  2. Practice for volleyball may begin no earlier than Monday, September 8, 2008.

  3. Medical examinations are required for all girls participating in interscholastic sports programs. The procedure to be used is the same for all athletes. Contact your athletic director for information.

  4. Practices shall be conducted five (5) days a week, except on the days when matches are scheduled.

  5. The National Federation Volleyball Rules will be used, including all modifications as outlined by the MSHSL.

  6. A match shall consist of three (3) games (best two out of three). Rally scoring, all games to 25 points.

  7. Player's benches shall be located on the opposite side of the floor from spectators.

  8. Each school will determine its own policy in admitting spectators. Visiting schools should be notified of this policy.

  9. Both coaches should talk with the officials prior to each match. A level of play may be determined at this time.

  10. Request to play non-conference games must be made through the Athletic Director.

  11. The host school shall furnish six (6) volleyballs for the visiting school to use during warm-up prior to the game.

  12. Coach or school athletic director is responsible for arrangement of officials, scorer and timer for each home match. They must also forward in a timely manner the Officiating Services Report to the District Office so that officials are paid.

  13. The results of the match should be called in by the HOME coach to John Vosejpka by phone (767-3490), Fax (293-5374) or E-Mail (john.vosejpka@SPPS.org) for Web site posting.

  14. Students and coaches are to travel by bonded carrier. Coaches must accompany students on the bus.

  15. Trophy, ribbons and medals will be awarded to the City Champion at a scheduled board meeting.


JUNIOR HIGH VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT

DATE: Saturday, November 1, 2008
TIME: 8:30 a.m. -- coaches meeting; 9:00 a.m. start
PLACE: Johnson H.S.

Format:

  1. As voted by the volleyball coaches, the top eight teams will qualify for the tournament.
  2. Everyone is guaranteed two matches (if you lose both first and second round matches, you are eliminated from further competition). Each game, two out of three, goes to 25, rally scoring.
  • 9:00 a.m. -- 1 vs. 5, 4 vs. 8, 2 vs. 6, 3 vs. 7
  • 10:15 a.m. -- Winner 1-5 vs. Winner 4-8; Winner 2-6 vs. Winner 3-7; Loser 1-5 vs. Loser 4-8; Loser 2-6 vs. Loser 3-7
  • 11:30 a.m. -- Winner 1-5/4-8 vs. Winner 2-6/3-7 (championship); Loser 1-5/4-8 vs. Loser 2-6/3-7 (third place); Winners of Loser 1-5/4-8 vs. Loser 2-6/3-7 (fifth place)
