ST. PAUL CITY CONFERENCE: Softball Guidelines

  1. The softball coaches will meet on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 3:15 p.m. at Harding Senior High. All coaches, including any assistant coaches, must attend this meeting.

  2. Opening date for practice will be Monday, March 9, 2009.

  3. All coaches are encouraged to join the St. Paul Coaches Association and the Minnesota State Softball Coaches Association.

  4. Except as modified by the MSHSL, the National Federation Softball Rules - fast pitch will be used during the season.

  5. Two (2) umpires will be provided for each conference game.

  6. One scorer will be hired by the home school for the varsity game only. That scorer will be paid by the District Office.

  7. Coaches are to notify the school athletic director of game results the morning of the next school day for the weekly district report.

  8. Ground rules must be agreed upon with the umpires before the game begins.

  9. The home team will furnish the bases.

  10. If weather conditions, before 1:00 p.m., necessitate postponement of the game, the home team will notify all concerned. If weather conditions are doubtful, a ruling on the postponement of the game will not be made until 12:00 p.m. It is impossible for the District Office to anticipate or know definitely the condition of the fields so the home team coaches must accept the responsibility of notifying the Athletic Director in charge if a postponement is necessary. If an umpire appears for work because the Athletic Director in charge was not notified in time, the school will be required to pay him.

  11. Postponed games will be rescheduled by the two schools involved on the first available date.

  12. Junior varsity games shall not start a new inning after 5:30 p.m.

  13. Pre-game game warm up schedule:
    1. 3:00 - 3:40 p.m -- Home team warms up on field
    2. 3:40 - 3:55 p.m. -- Visiting team warms up on field.
    3. 3:55 p.m. -- Ground rules.
    4. 4:00 p.m. -- Games begin.

  14. The conference championship shall be based on conference games only. A trophy and medals will be awarded to the conference champion. The number of medals will be based on the tournament squad as designated by the MSHSL.

  15. By vote of the softball coaches, the winning team is reponsible for calling in the score to the media. For Web site posting, the results of all three games should be called in by the HOME coach, contacting John Vosejpka by phone (767-3490), Fax (293-5374) or E-Mail (john.vosejpka@SPPS.org).

  16. All-Conference selections will be made at the post-season meeting.

      Arlington -- varsity and "C" at Arlington
      Central -- varsity at Dunning Lighted #1, j.v. and "C" at Dunning #9
      Como Park -- varsity at Como Park H.S., j.v. and "C" at McMurray
      Harding -- varsity at Harding, j.v. and "C" at Eastview
      Highland Park -- varsity and j.v. at Highland Park, "C" at Riverside
      Humboldt -- varsity at Humboldt, "C" at Baker
      Johnson -- varsity, j.v. and "C" at Phalen


TWIN CITIES SOFTBALL GAME

DATE: TBA

TIME: 3:30 p.m.

PLACE: St. Paul site

  1. The first place varsity squad from the St. Paul City Conference shall play the first place squad from Minneapolis.

  2. In case of a tie, the school that has not participated most recently will automatically qualify for the Twin Cities Game.

  3. Current National Federation Softball Rules shall govern play.

  4. The host school shall furnish new softballs for play of championship game.

  5. Two umpires shall be provided.

  6. Adequate supervision of students is the responsibility of each school.
